Dr. Daphne Denham, a general surgeon with extensive experience in using hyperbarics to treat both concussions and wounds, has brought her practice to Fargo.
And, with the help of the Dakota Medical Foundation’s (DMF) “Concussion Care Initiative”, she is hoping to change the standard of care for a concussion.
As of now, the “treatment” for a concussion is often relaxation, reducing activities and therapy. And, if you or your loved one has suffered a traumatic brain injury, you know it doesn’t seem like enough, and Dr. Denham would agree.
With the non-invasive and painless process of hyperbarics, Dr. Denham is seeing almost instant results with her concussion patients. They are reporting “feeling themselves” again, headache relief, and eye tests are proving their opic nerve is higher functioning after a hyperbarics treatment.
The hyperbaric treatment is already FDA approved to treat a number of indications, including skin grafts and flaps, thermal burns, air or gas embolism, carbon monoxide poisoning, exceptional blood loss anemia and more. And there is an even longer list of internationally accepted indications like ALS, Alzheimer’s, Stroke, etc.
Dr. Denham believes the research and care she is providing to her patients could change – and vastly improve – how we treat concussions.
As part of the DMF Initiative, 100 local student-athletes are able to recieve treatment of their acute concussion for free.
