In this podcast: Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen joins Amy & JJ to discuss the fire at Notre Dame.
Life safety is always a firefighters first thought.
Dirksen says, “all fire departments know the high risk structures (“target hazard”) in their area and have plans in place”.
And, what if a fire like this broke out in Fargo? What is the height capability of our Fargo fire department?
Chief Dirksen says the tallest ladder will get them to about the 7th floor of a building. And, when something like Block 9 is built in downtown Fargo, there are several conversations and a testing phase to ensure fire protection for the building. In a newer building, that often means a stand-pipe system, rather than a sprinkler system.
And, some exciting news for the Fargo fire department: they are about to hire the 498th, 499th and 500th (!!) career fire fighter in the history of the department.
An insightful conversation! Listen to it in its entirety above!
