Darcie Huwe is the Finance Director/ Wahpeton City Auditor and joins IT2 to talk about the 2020 Census.
One Chance Every 10 Years
April 1, 2020 is “Census Day” next year – a nationwide count of every person living in the United States.
Local governments are being encouraged to form “complete count committees” to help encourage and educate the public so every household is counted.
$1,910
Previously, in southeast North Dakota, Huwe says the participation level has only been about 75%. And, in federal funding, that means a loss of about $37 million to the area over the last decade. Programs like Medicaid, nutritional benefits and highway funds are all included.
Each person is worth $1,910.00 when calculating federal funding.
New Ways to Respond
Huwe says she is optimistic about a new online option for responses. Also, she notes the Census has “amped up” the security they are offering for the information that is provided.
