Tracey Dillion, ima Healthcare licensed registered dietitian, joins IT2 to talk nutrition/ energy bars.
They are convenient – and often taste pretty good – but, what should we really look for and are they really good for you?
Dillion says it depends a lot on your goals: are you trying to lose weight, maintain, climb a mountain?
Beware of the calories and carbs if you are looking for a quick “snack”.
“Energy” = “Calories”
Often dubbed “energy bars”, Dillion says when you see that kind of marketing, you can always switch out the word “energy” for “calories”.
And, sugar alcohol, while a way for them to skirt around sugar in the ingredients, can cause some stomach pain and diarrhea.
Not surprisingly, Dillion says REAL FOOD is king. But, you can find bars that meet your needs.
