Christina Sambor, who works with Youthworks of North Dakota, joins Amy & JJ to talk human trafficking.
Reaction to the
plea deal offered to Robert Kraft
and thoughts on “teaching” kids about human trafficking in school.
Florida state lawmakers are
considering a law
that would require children be taught about the warning signs and dangers in school.
Sambor says, “…there’s a broader conversation about engaging with young people about healthy relationships”. Trafficking, for the victim, often starts as feeling like a romantic relationship. What are we telling kids about expectations in relationships? Whether it be romantic or otherwise. Unhealthy relationships can start in the home, and children should be empowered to recognize abuse and seek help.
Sambor also makes the point that one of the core things that has to happen in order for trafficking and exploitation to happen, “is that you have to view what you deserve as a human differently than what other people deserve.”
