Lawns
If you don’t mind looking at the white clover in your lawn, is there any problem keeping it? Dave says… Nope! It will save you the hassle of trying to get it out!
And, the backyard isn’t growing like the rest…? Dave says, “my suspicion is the black dirt isn’t as deep in the backyard… they tend to put more black dirt on the front of the lawn for curb appeal.”
Moving fruit trees
Wait until a week or two after Labor Day or right away next spring.
And, the bigger the tree mover, the greater your chance of success. For each inch of trunk diameter, you need at least one foot of ball. (So, if you have a 9 inch trunk diameter, you need a ball that is 9 feet across – and bigger is ever better.)
Moivng Day Lillies? Same recommendation – wait until after Labor day and be sure to cut the plant back to about 6 inches of green.
Trimming Trees
If you have to prune trees, right away in the spring before they leaf out is most ideal.
Fertilizing
When should you stop fertilizing? Dave says, “Labor day… if you keep fertilizing into labor day and late September, the plants won’t get ready for winter.”
