In this podcast: Daryl Ritchison, the Director of the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network (NDAWN), joins IT2.
131 Weather Stations (by August)
The newest NDAWN weather station is being set-up in Logan Center Township. The station tower will consist of 4 temperature sensors, including deep soil temperatures, 5 soil moisture probes, a camera, 2 wind sensors and a rain gauge. Daryl says eventually this station will have an “all seasons gauge” which he says is a, “very cool piece of technology,” that weighs precipitation to get crazy accurate moisture content readings.
This is the 96th station in North Dakota and the 130th in the NDAWN Network.
And, in a few weeks, another station will be added in Amidon, North Dakota. The smallest county seat in the country. Amidon is in Slope County, North Dakota, just north of Bowman, North Dakota.
These stations assist in providing the extensive weather data on their website –

about her New Year’s Eve tradition of predicting the moisture of each month with an onion and salt!
And, it seems, so far, the onion calendar isn’t doing too bad…
