In this episode: Dr. Clemenson talks summer ailments.
Swimmers or Lake Itch: Cercarial larval parasites from snails that burrow into skin and cause an allergic reaction. And, did you know: If you have had it once, there is a good chance it will be worse the next time. If you want to avoid it: Towel off well (vigorously rub dry your skin) and avoid shallow water. Treatment: steroid cream, calamine lotion, benadryl, cool compresses, epson salt/ oatmeal baths.
Poison Ivy/ Oak: “Leaves of 3, let it be!” It is an oil on the skin and will spread with scratching and become a red swollen rash. Wash off skin ASAP, use steroid creams to help with itch. Some cases require a shot if severe.
