It doesn’t get more “country mouse and city mouse” than Sarah Heinrich and JJ Gordon sitting down together – but there is always some fun when JJ gets a chance to ask the type of questions Sarah can answer.
For Sarah Heinrich, summers are filled with fairs. Everything from the small county fairs to the massive Red River Valley Fair and ND State Fair. Her life included showing animals and participating in 4-H events. Something that is the backbone of fairs in our neck of the woods. People travel hundreds of miles to participate or share their skills in an effort to promote agriculture education.
This year’s Red River Valley Fair is no exception. Imagine overseeing the setup of rides, inspection of the food stalls, booking the concerts as well as ma
king sure there is enough hay for the four legged guests.
When Sarah joins IT2, she had just come from the fowl barn where live chicks were hatching in front of her eyes. An act that might seem yearly to those who grew up in a rural setting, but a true miracle (once in a lifetime) to a city kid.
The Ag barns excel in hands on experiences for the young and adult who want to know where their food comes from, what animals we ranch in the region and get some of those “silly” questions answered by people who live and work this important job everyday.
