Dave Decock has decades of knowledge when it comes to household plants, veggie gardens and pruning your trees.
IN THIS EPISODE:
Grass – That nasty edge around your sidewalk and driveway. The grass is brown and dead from salt, snow blowing and harsh winter weather. When is a good time to seed the area? Dave recommends waiting another week or two and, when planting, rake it out gently and use the dead grass as a mulch to keep the seeds moist.
Poinsettias – If you have a poinsettia from last Christmas that you want to bring outside, Dave says wait until we stop dropping below freezing at night and wash out the soil. Our city water has a lot of salt in it, so when you transplant it outside – rinse through a few cups of distilled water and only go down as far as the roots stretch for soil. Less chance of transplant shock or adding salty dirt to your outdoor soil.
Dave also gives a tip on an easy vine for your fence – Engleman Ivy is an aggressive vining plant that will grow fast. If it continues beyond where you would like it, simply cut it back. You can cut it to the ground and will see new growth very quickly.
