When Orson Welles started his broadcast in 1938, no one knew the sensation it would create across the nation. Men and women fortified their homes and shuffled off to New Jersey to fight the aliens. In the eight decades since, the classic H.G. Wells story has been adapted into numerous film and television productions as well as re-broadcast an uncountable number of times.
The visuals are striking as fictional reporters describe the alien ships, the army fighting against an invading force and the perfect mixture of dance music and news bulletins.
