Mr. Fix It with Tim Noteboom: Three Things You SHOULDN’T Do Yourself

Once a month, Mr. Fix-It himself – Tim Noteboom – joins It Takes 2 in the studio to talk about all sorts of home repair. He takes calls and texts from listeners about everything from foundations to weather vanes!

IN THIS EPISODE:

Tim gives his advice on the three things that he WOULDN’T do as the average DIYer. Home repair or remodeling items that should be left to professionals with the knowledge and insurance/bonding for the job!

1. Electrical – There are too many stories about bad wiring burning down homes or becoming bigger projects years down the road. Let a licensed electrician do the work. A simple outlet or light switch might be easy enough, but why put the work in just to have it redone down the road???

2. Tape and Texture – Let someone else deal with the headache. Tim says that during inspections it can be glaringly obvious that there was some homeowner drywall work done. Too much mud, tape lines peeling or uneven corners can hurt your resale value. Let the pros come in and do it in half the time with their specialized equipment. The dust alone should keep you from this!

3. Plumbing – It goes behind a wall and small – but constant – water leaks can be devastating to a home. You won’t know that your “cost saving” time behind a toilet caused a floor joist to rot until it’s too late. Bring in someone who has seen everything and can help troubleshoot if there is a bigger problem lurking somewhere!
