Cheese is a staple of many comfort and family favorites across the heartland. Whether they are layering ricotta into a lasagna or sprinkling cheddar on top of nachos – we consumer cheese on a daily basis.
In fact, the average person eats 37+ pounds of a cheese a year.
One of the best cheese based meals is the classic GRILLED CHEESE. JJ has a tip for you to up your grilled cheese game.
GRILLED CHEESE A LA JJ
1. Pick your favorite kind of cheese and bring it to room temperature. American cheese slices, Swiss, Farmer’s, whatever.
2. Take two slices of bread (potato bread is my personal choice)
3. Butter one side of each slice.
4. Add a dap of butter to a hot skillet and let it melt.
5. Brown the bread, butter side down and remove from skillet.
6. Using the already browned layers as the INSIDE, assemble cheese onto the bread and add a few pepperoni slices for fun.
7. Brown the other two sides of the bread and melt the cheese inside.
8. Serve and enjoy!
The key here is that ALL FOUR SIDES of the bread get toasted and add an additional cruch to the sandwich. I can always tell when only two sides are toasted.
Some might argue that adding pepperoni makes it a melt, but that is an argument for another day…
