Did you know that Swiss Steak does not mean it comes from Switzerland. Indeed! The “swiss” part refers to the act of being “swissed” by rolling or pounding before being braised in a cooking pot of stewed vegetables and seasonings.
No fancy pocket knives needed!
JJ shares his love of the old McCormick seasoning Swiss Steak packet. It had the bag, the seasoning and everything but the meat and tomatoes.
Well good news! There are some smart cookies out there who reverse engineered the recipe so you can still enjoy it at home. Especially if you have fresh ripe tomatoes to give this dish an extra kick. It’s easy and pairs great with mashed potatoes.
