David Bean from Project Stand Up joins IT2 to discuss the system’s anonymous texting platform that will allow students and citizens to alert authorities when a child’s safety is at risk or provide anonymous drug informant tips.
By texting the word “SAFE” to 82257, you can send an anonymous message directly to school and law enforcement officials. After texting “SAFE” you will be given a short series of questions to accurately assess where to send the information. The service operates 24/7 and can be used by students, parents, teachers and community members. Tips involving student issues like suicide, shootings, larceny, bullying, vandalism and even cheating can be texted from any phone that has cell/text service or even computers with text abilities – such as Apple’s Messages program.
You can also text the word “DRUGS” to 82257 to place tips on places where drugs are being sold, consumed or transported.
A simple process helps Project Stand Up weed out the bogus tips and can handle a large volume at a time – which makes for an efficient way to alert law officials without tying up 911 lines. Of course, in the case of immediate danger, the system alerts the user to dial 911.
