WILLISTON, ND (KFGO) – Members of two families murdered in Mexico in what may have been a case of mistaken identity have apparent ties to Williston.
A GoFundMe page has been established to raise $100,000 for the Lebaron and Langford families. Nine members of the families died when members of a drug cartel opened fire on a caravan of three SUVs in northern Mexico.
A brother of Rhonita Maria Miller said in a Facebook post that his sister, who lived in Williston, and her four children died. Miller and the others who died belonged to a fundamentalist Mormon community in Mexico.
Those who set up the GoFundMe account say they’re raising money for medical and funeral costs.
At least one of the SUVs caught fire with five people inside.
