MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) – Falling snow and freezing temperatures didn’t stop die-hard customers from buying a frozen treat at the downtown Moorhead Dairy Queen Friday.
Despite the weather, the walk-up style Dairy Queen has traditionally opened on March 1 for the past 70 years.
Mark Hedlund of Moorhead and his daughter waited in line for a Dilly Bar and a Royal Oreo Blizzard. “She’s got to get to school, so we’re playing a little hooky” Hedlund said.
“I come here every year on opening day, but I’ve never been here this early” according to Rebecca Hoobler. “I’m getting the Oreo Hot Cocoa Blizzard because it has the word ‘hot’ in it.”
About 20 people were standing in line and the temperature was about 10 degrees when the DQ’s sliding windows first opened at 9 a.m.
