FARGO (KFGO) – “Disappointed.” That response from Mary Scherling, Chair of the FM Diversion Authority, following the vote by the Buffalo-Red River Watershed District and its managers against a permit for the controversial flood control project.
Scherling said she hopes the two sides can still work out a compromise, but said the Diversion Authority is already consulting with its lawyers about what the next step should be.
“I don’t believe that their vote was based even on their own rules to be quite frank, so at this point we will unfortunately be talking to our attorneys and seeing what the process is, there is a process and we will follow through with that, we still need flood protection, we will have a diversion built and we will move forward,” said Scherling.
Watershed officials declined further comment on their decision because of concern about a potential lawsuit.
