HOPKINS, Minn. (KFGO) – A labor strike against the company that owns Supervalu has expanded into Minnesota.
Teamsters Local 414 of Fort Wayne, Indiana launched the strike against United Natural Foods Inc. UNFI distributes groceries in the Fargo-Moorhead and Twin Cities areas.
The Teamsters say UNFI is under investigation for violating federal labor laws and that they’re striking to protect their rights. More than 700 Teamsters Local 120 members in Hopkins, Minn. are among those participating in the walkout.
UNFI’s brands, including Essential Everyday, Wild Harvest and Culinary Circle are sold by Hornbacher’s. The company also distributes to Cub Foods, Whole Foods and Amazon.
The Teamsters aren’t commenting on whether the strike could be expanded to the Fargo-Moorhead area.
