BOULDER, Colo. (KFGO) – Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the University of Colorado in Boulder Monday to protest the possible hiring of University of North Dakota President Mark Kennedy.
Heidi Harris, the Editor-in-Chief of the “CU Independent” student newspaper, says about 250-300 students attended. Harris says many of the students spoke, carried signs or held lemons, symbolizing their belief that Kennedy is a “lemon” as a choice for University of Colorado president.
The students are opposed to Kennedy because of his congressional voting record on issues including sexual orientation and reproductive rights. They also disagree with the University of Colorado Regents selection process.
Additional protests are planned for when Kennedy visits the Colorado campuses later this month.
