One of my favorite things about being part of the KFGO family is the chance to meet the listeners. My favorite place to meet them is during the “Coffee With KFGO” events in which personalities from KFGO travel to YOUR town, pick up the bill for coffee and meet the people who are tuning in everyday.
While in Hope, ND, I met “Cowboy Gary.” Gary has a long history with KFGO that goes back to before I was even a twinkle in my father’s eye. Like old friends who had never met, Gary and I started chatting and we struck up a nice friendship. I noticed right away that he was the real deal. Nice boots, bolo tie and one heckuva cowboy hat. I complimented him on the hat and he instantly took it off and instructed me to touch the brim. It was not what I expected. Gary explained that this hat, which he got in Arizona was made from palm fronds.
I told him I liked it and he responded with, “I am headed down to Arizona again in a few months and I will bring one back for you.” A very kind gesture and you can imagine my surprise when I received a call from Gary while he was in AZ. “I am heading over to that place and wanted to make sure you still wanted a hat!” He was making good on what he said in Hope! I replied, “You betcha.”
A few weeks later, Gary stepped into the KFGO building with a brand new hat. It’s even a little nicer than his!

I wasn’t a rural kid growing up. I lived and went to school int he city. Spent summers at the lake, so I knew some about hard work – but nothing compared to life on the farm.
That’s why I am using the new nickname “The Cardigan Cowboy.” I may not have a brand with the name of my ranch on it, but I do have enough cardigans to go around. The addition of this amazing new hat completes the ensemble.
Yee-Haw, pardners!
