Gift Ideas and Tips
Every Mother is different. Some appreciate a piece of beautiful jewelry while others like to enjoy experiences as a family. When you are shopping for the mom in your life, it is easy to stress out. Luckily, KFGO has some great ideas that can help you make Mother’s Day 2024 a complete success!
Gifts for the Mother who...
Would appreciate some jewelry:
We searched high and low in the FM area and Riddle’s Jewelry had the best selection and value for what we found. You can go with a classic piece like a tennis bracelet or pendent, but you can also find a gift that you can continue to add onto as the years go by. Look for a piece of jewelry that you can continue to customize each year. And nothing is more classic or classy than a pearl necklace. Elegant and timeless.
Tip #1 – Plan in advance. Mother’s Day is SUNDAY, MAY 12th – so don’t get caught on 5/11/24 trying to find something before the store closes!
Wants an experience:
Did you know that we have several companies in the FM area that offer cooking classes? What a great way to spend an afternoon or evening! Take a class learning to make cocktails or a French dessert. These classes could be the perfect Mother’s Day gift if you come along! Sizes and availability vary – but there are even some that come to your home and teach an intimate class in your own kitchen (like Sourdough bread making). Since you won’t have something to wrap, surprise Mom with a card that includes the details of where, when and who to invite.
Tip #2 – Your Mother may not need more “stuff” – consider an experience like a spa day or hotel stay.
Wants to relax:
Spa experiences are not just a white robe and some cucumber water. We are very lucky to have so many great organizations that offer services from 30 minute facials to entire days at the spa. This requires a bit of digging to make sure that you get the right relaxation services for your Mom. For example, she might want a longer massage and just a pedicure over a facial/massage/foot scrub. It’s ok to ask! Find out what she likes and find out when she can go…because gift cards can be forgotten. The pro tip on getting Mom something to do with a spa is to MAKE THE APPOINTMENT AND PREPAY. Don’t give Mom an obligation, make all the arrangements in advance so you can surprise her on Mother’s Day with all the details and all she has to do is sit back and relax.
Tip #3 – Something from the heart is always appreciated. Homemade is in fashion!
Wants a change of scenery:
Call a travel agency. They have great trips for solo travelers, couples, etc… Find out what they have on special or would recommend. Sante Fe was a destination that boomed for travelers seeking art, food and culture – maybe that would be a great trip for your mom?!?! And a great travel agent will even give you tips on sending Mom to somewhere drivable. A trip to the Twin Cities – but make a reservation at a boutique hotel or restaurant. There is even a great way LOCALLY to send mom on a trip. Book a hotel in town, dinner someplace she has never been and a photo in front of a local landmark. It’s amazing what a half mile away from home can do.
Tip #4 – Gifts that include the whole family are a hit. Try a “make your own candle kit” or take a pizza making class for everyone!
Wants something homemade:
You can find kits online that allow you to make almost anything. Homemade candle kits, soap making, custom planters, etc… Find one of those projects and give Mom something you made. The gift shows that you wanted to express your love by spending your own time to created something for her. NOTE – if you want to do one of these…plan in advance. Don’t wait until the last minute!
Tip #5 – Wrap, Wrap, Wrap. More than just a bag, add the tissue paper. Make an effort and don’t present the gift in a shipping box!
Wants a card:
Take time and really read the card you give to your Mother. Is it sentimental and sweet? Funny or outrageous? From everyone or just you? There are a LOT of Mother’s Day cards. You can get them at the grocery store, big box stores or even specialty card stores. The more unique and specific the card, the more likely it will touch your Mom’s heart. Write out what you plan to say in the card in advance and check for spelling. A note with a special story or message can make all the difference.
