GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – Employees at a Grand Forks Starbucks have voted to unionize.
On a 13-10 vote, baristas at the 623 S. Washington Street store agreed to join Starbucks Workers United.
According to Starbucks, the employees join 10,000 other workers at 410 stores in 43 states who have decided to unionize over the past three years.
“It was a difficult process, but in the end we came together, and we are very excited to continue this journey,” barista Haleigh Johnson said. “The community has been an amazing support to us and we are so thankful.”
It is the first Starbucks in North Dakota to join the union.
“We respect the rights of our partners to organize and bargain collectively, and we are eager to reach ratified agreements in 2024 for represented stores,” Starbucks said in a statement. “We are committed to delivering on our promise to offer a bridge to a better future to all Starbucks partners.”
