PRINSBURG, Minn. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department says a rural Prinsburg man tried to commit suicide by cop but was unsuccessful, and now faces assault charges.
The incident began Sunday when the sheriff’s office got a call of a suicidal man with a handgun at a home south of Prinsburg. Dispatchers convinced the man to go outside the home, away from other people inside, and when deputies arrived, they attempted to get the man to drop the gun and walk to them. Instead, the man pointed the gun at deputies and told the dispatcher he wanted the officers to shoot him.
Eventually, he dropped the gun and was arrested. After being checked out at CentraCare Rice Hospital in Willmar, he was arrested. No one was injured in the incident.
