ST. PAUL – An incident Friday night at the Ramsey County Jail in St. Paul prompted a SWAT response as a precaution. Police believed what they thought was a gunshot occurred while transporting a man.
There was a police call in which officers were told that a man would not come out of a bathroom. Officers used force to remove the man from the bathroom and took him to the Ramsey County Jail. Authorities did not report what the man had been accused of.
Officers brought the man who was handcuffed to the transfer area to book him into jail. While officers were taking him out of the car, it sounded like they heard a gunshot.
Officers took precautions and called in SWAT to secure the man, deploying gas to get him out of the car.
It is not clear if a gun was fired, or if a gun was found at the scene.
No one was injured during the incident.
