FARGO (KFGO) – A Detroit, Michigan man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for leading a drug ring that sold thousands of oxycodone and fentanyl pills in Bismarck, Minot, and on the Fort Berthold and Spirit Lake Reservations.
29-year-old Romel Rambus was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Fargo by Judge Peter Welte. Prosecutors say he took over the criminal organization following the death of his brother. Two other men who were part of the operation received 15-year prison terms.
In all, more than 40 people were charged in the case. They’ve either pleaded guilty or signed agreements and intend to plead guilty. They were affiliated with a drug trafficking organization known as the 5674 Reub Gang, a violent street gang in Detroit.
The multi-agency investigation was led by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
