BOSTON (UND Athletics)– Defenseman Jake Livanavage was named to the 2024 Tim Taylor Award Watch List, presented annually to the nation’s top freshman, as announced by the Hockey Commissioner’s Association on Thursday. Livanavage is one of 32 rookies up for the award.
Livanavage has emerged as one of the top rookie defensemen in the nation, helping the Fighting Hawks climb to the top of the NCHC standings and sit No. 2 in the national polls. The Phoenix, Ariz., native was most recently crowned the NCHC Rookie of the Month for January after finishing with eight points (1G, 7A) to pace all blue liners in the conference.
He notched at least one point in six of UND’s eight games for the month of January, including a pair of multi-assist contests in wins over nationally-ranked St. Cloud State and Denver.
Over the last 14 games, Livanavage has tallied 14 points to climb to sixth on the team with 17 overall points this season while also holding a plus-10 rating and totaling 35 blocked shots. He currently sits tied for sixth for points by a rookie defenseman at UND since 1999-00.
The Tim Taylor Award is voted on by the nation’s assistant coaches. At season’s end, a ballot consisting of each men’s Division I conference’s Rookie of the Year will be presented to the assistant coaches and they will vote, with one vote per school, to identify the winner. This year’s Tim Taylor Award for National Rookie of the Year will be announced during the men’s Frozen Four (April 11-13) in St. Paul, Minn.
