FARGO (KFGO) – Firefighters were called to the Chestnut Ridge Apartments at 3161 32nd Street South in Fargo shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday on a fire report. The first unit arriving on the scene saw smoke coming from a first-floor apartment.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Dane Carley says the door to the apartment had been left open leaving the entire hallway full of smoke so the firefighters had to work their in way in zero visibility conditions. Once inside the apartment, they were able to contain the fire in the room where the fire started. Firefighters searched the unit, found the victim, and rescued her. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Her condition is not known.
Heavy fire damage was confined to the apartment bedroom. There was heat and smoke damage throughout the unit. The remainder of the building had some smoke and soot but no permanent damage.
Other residents were temporarily evacuated while crews removed smoke and fire gases from the building.
Damage is estimated at $75,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
