FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo City Commission has approved a master facilities plan for the police department for a new, larger headquarters and other space needs, growth, and future requirements for the department’s facilities.
The study and analysis started last June. The comprehensive space need study contains a summary outlining current shortfalls.
Brian Berryhill of Roth Sheppard Architects is with one of the teams that conducted the study which found site and building deficiencies.
The study said the headquarters building doesn’t meet current building code standards for a police facility, unsecured parking, site security, railroad proximity that is considered a threat to operations, and response times for officers.
The department moved into the current headquarters four years ago and now leases the facility, located at 25th Street and 1st Avenue North and has been in the process of purchasing the building.
The vote to approve the study was 4-1. Fargo Police will need to come back within one to two years with specific plans for the two options. A third option is to continue using the existing headquarters in some form.
