DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – The Devils Lake Fire chief says everything is on track for the department to host their annual ice fishing tournament at the end of this month.
Chief Nate Bennett says tournament committee members checked the conditions in the tournament area right after Christmas.
He says despite the mild winter there is decent ice in that location, and Bennett says the extended weather forecast is trending in the right direction for the tournament.
Bennett says safety is the top priority for the department and officials will continue to monitor ice conditions leading up to the 40th annual tournament on January 27th.
The event, which brings thousands of people to Devils Lake will award more than $325,000 in fishing and raffle prizes this year.
Tickets for the event have long been sold out.
