Lake of the Woods, Long Point area, open water
LAKE OF THE WOODS, Minn. (KFGO) – There have been several more ice angler incidents in northern Minnesota. The latest happened Monday on Lake of the Woods.
The Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office was notified at about 2:30 p.m. that a man had gone through the ice on his ATV. He was about a mile off of Long Point on the south side of the lake. Authorities say he was able to get out with no injuries.
A short time later, the sheriff’s office received another call that about 50 people were stranded on the ice in the same area, on the north side of a pressure ridge that had cracked open.
Deputies, the Minnesota DNR, and the Long Point Resort worked to get the anglers to safety using boats and UTVs.
