UPPER RED LAKE, Minn. (KFGO) – Three fishermen are safe after falling through the ice on Upper Red Lake Thursday night.
According to the Beltrami County Sheriff, a 911 caller reported an ATV and trailer combination broke through the ice and two people fell into the water. The two men were able to get back on top of the ice on their own.
Kelliher Fire and Rescue was able to get the men back to shore around 9 p.m. The men were not injured. They told first responders they went the wrong direction on their way back to a resort and broke through an ice pressure ridge.
This is the third incident of people needing assistance on Upper Red Lake this week. On Sunday night, first responders rescued 35 people stranded on a large ice chunk that broke from the shore shortly before 5 p.m. On Tuesday, a single-engine airplane carrying the pilot and one passenger broke through the ice.
Other than cold exposure, no one was hurt in any of the instances.
