ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has released the names of the people involved in an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning.
According to the Bureau, Officer Eric Klenken responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home in Marshall where he heard a woman screaming for help from an upstairs bedroom. Klenken found Jamel Moore, 41, on top of Meredith Martell, 35. He was stabbing her in a closet.
Klenken ordered Moore to drop the knife, but when Moore refused, Klenken stunned him with a taser. When that didn’t have any effect, Klenken ordered Moore to drop the knife again before shooting him twice.
Three more Marshall police officers and a deputy from Lyons County arrived and helped provide medical aid to Moore and Martell. Moore died at the scene. Martell died later that day.
The BCA said Klenken has 24 years of law enforcement experience. He is on paid administrative leave.
The shooting is under investigation.
