MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The driver of a car stolen from a south Moorhead convenience store managed to get away on three tires after stop sticks were used on I-94.
Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting said the car was taken from Holiday Stationstore on 34th Street S. by a female at around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. A commercial vehicle inspector at the MN-DOT weigh scale east of Moorhead spotted the car.
A deputy followed the vehicle, but did not pursue while other law enforcement agencies could get into position to set up tire deflation equipment. Deputies and a state trooper alerted Barnesville police and stop sticks flattened one tire.
The driver continued east on the interstate with a deputy in pursuit. Empting said speeds reached 100-110 miles per hour.
The female exited I-94 at the Pelican Rapids exit, drove east for a short distance, and then drove back onto I-94 traveling east in the westbound lanes. Law enforcement decided to end the pursuit.
The female eventually entered the eastbound lanes and continued eastbound.
The female and car have not been found.
