WASHINGTON – A southern Minnesota man is jailed on federal charges for his alleged role in the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
The U.S. Justice Department said 34-year-old Paul Orta, Jr. of Blue Earth was arrested Tuesday in Minnesota and will make his first court appearance Wednesday.
According to prosecutors, the video shows Orta tossing a metal barricade onto the ground inside the restricted perimeter of the Capitol and urging the crowd to move forward.
Orta is accused of obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, entering a restricted building or grounds, and disorderly and disruptive conduct.
