Awhile back, I took the kids to the library. As we were walking out one of my children was suddenly inspired by honesty and asked me why I was wearing pajamas. I was in leggings and a longish t-shirt, comfortable clothes for a relaxing evening. Bedtime was still a few hours away.
I cringed at my reflection in the gigantic reflective windows and asked myself, ”
Am
I wearing pajamas in public? Have I worn this outfit to bed before? When did I start wearing pajamas in public?”
I dug deep into the memory reserves trying to remember if I had a rule about wearing pajamas in public. I was sure I had mapped out this statute sometime back when I was a new mother full of mom guilt and determination.
Friends, I have three kids, one husband, and two cats. I have a full time job, but that’s not important because working moms and stay-at-home moms all work hard,
darnit
, and can’t we all just get along?
So I’ve heard. I wouldn’t know.
The important thing is that I haven’t had control over the remote or my life in about 10 years.
I will always be 1 to 5 years behind on fashion trends because kids have a lot of actual NEEDS and I am flying down the hill of life faster than Clark Griswold on his greased-up sled.
But the honest truth is
I just don’t care about fashion .
You heard me.
When I wake up as late as humanly possible to still get out the door on time, I just want to grab a top and a bottom and spend a few precious moments waking up my grumpy kids and ordering them around until we finally get to school 10 minutes late. Good muffin top coverage is a bonus, but not required.
In case you are behind on fashion trends like me, leggings are a
thing
right now. They are a versatile little piece of clothing that can be worn for marathoning, yoga, dinner with friends, lazy Saturdays, and fancy get togethers. The options are endless and you can purchase leggings anywhere, for any occasion. I’ve even seen them sold from a hockey mom’s purse AND for 60% off at the hardware store.
That said, I was feeling more hip than usual one day and purchased myself a pair of leggings. They fit well and didn’t tell the truth about my thighs. I nearly put them back, but I found a sweater to go with them and then the boots, so I figured, OK, I can be on trend for once.
Garanimals knew what they were doing in the 1970’s. My leggings are my favorite pants.
So let me ask you this…did I wear pajamas to the library?
We’ll never know and I ain’t tellin’!
