INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WCCO) – A suspect charged with second-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting in Minneapolis is the subject of a manhunt after he was mistakenly released from a county jail in Indianapolis last week.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said a “faulty records review” allowed 28-year-old Kevin Mason of St. Paul to get released. Mason was wanted on three active arrest warrants in Minnesota for the 2021 murder of 29-year-old Dontevius Catchings outside the Shiloh Temple. Investigators believe Mason fled to Indianapolis shortly after the murder because he has ties to the area.
Mason was captured in Indiana on September 11 and mistakenly released two days later.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said a round-the-clock manhunt has been underway since the release and two records clerks involved in the case have been fired following an internal investigation.
