Minn. Court of Appeals
ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Minnesota Court of Appeals judge is ordering a judge in Park Rapids to reconsider a decision denying a name change for a transgender minor.
An Akeley woman asked for the name change on behalf of her then-15-year-old son last year. The mother and father of the child are divorced but share custody and the father objected to the change.
The Hubbard County District Court judge ruled in October that the name change was not in the best interest of the child.
The ruling by the appeals court judge said the district judge did not provide enough information to support his decision and ordered a new hearing.
