CHANHASSEN, MINN. — Not the usual brown, but purple signs are being installed Thursday along a seven-mile stretch of Highway 5 in Chanhassen to mark the “Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway” where his home and studio Paisley Park are located.
The Minnesota House passed the bill in late April, the Senate passed it May 5th and four days later, Governor Tim Walz affixed his signature in purple ink.
Prince’s longtime friend Mark Webster said the memorial highway is a gift. Webster told lawmakers, “We know Prince never wanted anything from anybody. He got everything he wanted himself. And I think the State of Minnesota giving his highway is a great thing for the world, for the state of Minnesota.”
