MINNEAPOLIS – Activists in the Racial Justice Network are demanding that Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty bring charges against the Minnesota State Patrol trooper who fatally shot Ricky Cobb.
Cobb was shot during a traffic stop early Monday morning on I-94 in north Minneapolis.
The group says Cobb, who was black, asked if it was related to a warrant, and when the trooper said “no,” the average person would assume the officer had no constitutional right to demand he step out of his car. They say a second trooper then aggressively opened the passenger door, escalating the situation, and the officer instantly shot Cobb without warning.
“Law enforcement regularly demonstrates no difficulty apprehending white suspects without suddenly feeling the need to kill them,” Racial Justice Network member Kim Millard said.
