COOK, MN – An investigation is underway after a teen driver crashed at a railroad crossing in St. Louis County early Sunday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies responded near the city of Cook after dispatchers received an “automated 9-1-1 call stating that an iPhone user had been in a severe crash.” Deputies say it appears the vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control after going over the railroad crossing, left the roadway, and struck the crossing arm control, and came to rest on its roof. Both of the vehicle’s occupants were taken to the hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.
The 18-year-old driver from the Nett Lake area is being investigated for criminal vehicular operation and driving while under the influence.
