A conversation with a girlfriend’s mom years ago led me to try to live by the line: “Put the kitchen to bed”. I remember it was a question about HOW you raise a house FULL of children, and her answer: “Always put the kitchen to bed”.
Maybe this is advice everyone knows…? And, if that’s the case, I guess no harm in making sure it’s repeated.
They say the kitchen is the “heart of the home” and it’s true! We start our day there, we meet there at the end of the day and often it’s the backdrop of long conversations, mail-sorting, bill-paying and every kind of project you can think of. So, even when the laundry is piled up and the shelves need dusting, if you wake up to a clean kitchen, you’ve started the day off right.
I’m not talking about cleaning the shelves of your fridge, just do the last of the few dishes sitting out, wipe down the counters and tidy up. You’ll be amazed what 15 minutes can accomplish. And, you’ll thank yourself in the morning.
And, hey, if you miss the chaos in the morning… wait ’till morning to get your lunch ready! Ha!
