MOORHEAD (KFGO) – It’s been a year since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision allowing states to ban or severely limit abortion which prompted Red River Women’s Clinic’s subsequent move to Minnesota.
Tammi Kromenaker told elected leaders during a tour of the clinic, morale has improved for both patients and staff since the move.
“Specifically for us just being five minutes away in this different facility, having a parking lot…we’re in a one-story building. Our staff in Fargo were on two levels,” Kromenaker said. “Some staff didn’t even know who each other was. Now, we’re on one level, so I see a better staff cohesion. I think we’re better able to take care of people in a more patient-centered way without all the stigmatizing hoops that we had to jump through in North Dakota.”
Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan said the state is proud to be known as a legal safe haven for abortion.
“It is so clear that this clinic is essential care for Minnesotans, but also folks from across the country,” Flanagan said. “We want to welcome people from the other side of the river to Minnesota. It is who we are. We talk about being good neighbors, right? If we need to plow your driveway or bring you a hotdish when you move in. We also are going to make sure that you have access to abortion care.”
A recent report showed that there has been a 30% increase in people from outside Minnesota seeking abortion care in the state since the Dobbs decision.
