Do you have “budget”?
AHHHHH… that might be the scariest financial question. Ever.
A budget is a great idea. And, most of us, at some point have created one… and then didn’t end up sticking to it or it got sloppy.
I’m not a financial expert, enthusiast or anything in between, however, I’ve seen a trend among those who are – and I think their anti-budget ideas are great and worth sharing. In fact, the ideas are so realistic, I think they COULD ensure an easy way to teach the next generation to manage their money efficiently.
(A quick Google search will lead you to plenty of stories about the Millennial generation’s financial ineptitude.)
So, here’s the idea.
1. Write down your after taxes take home pay.
2. Subtract your bills & savings.
… and whatever you have left over is what you can spend.
Does it matter what you are spending it on? Not really.
What matters is you are able to build your “savings” plans – paying off debt, building retirement and savings accounts, etc.
The goal of your budget was to save and pay your bills… and that’s exactly what you just did!
No need to get bogged down in templates and print-offs and envelopes and line items when, really, it’s just that simple equation.
A simplistic and realistic way for ANYONE to approach and manage finances.
