WILLISTON, N.D. (KFGO) – While not yet officially confirmed, Williston Fire Department Assistant Chief Corey Johnston says it appears a lightning strike caused an explosion at an oil production site Monday night.
Fire units on the scene confirmed there was an explosion and several storage tanks were burning. Fire crews monitored the scene and surrounding area and controlled the fire.
Residents nearby were advised to turn off ventilation and air conditioning systems if they saw any smoke drifting in their direction. There have been no reports of any injuries.
