ST. PAUL, Minn. – Thousands of Minnesota veterans will be able to access medical marijuana for the first time next year.
According to Office of Medical Cannabis Director Chris Tholkes, veterans receiving care through the VA System have faced some unique challenges.
“Those providers are not allowed to certify their patients for the medical (cannabis) program because of the federal standing of marijuana,” Tholkes said. “So, we are tasked with developing a new way to get veterans into the program.”
Tholkes said the new veterans’ application process for medical cannabis will begin on January 1.
Minnesota’s recreational marijuana dispensaries are expected to open in 2025.
