In all my years on this earth (it’s getting to be a lot of them) something happened this morning that I had never experienced before.
I have my teeth cleaned on a regular basis, and on tax day, April 15th, I kept my 11 am appointment with the new hygienist at my regular dental office.
When she started with the “water-pick” cleaning process, I noticed something very different. She was a south-paw…a lefty, and in my mind, it kind of threw me through a loop.
I’m just guessing that almost every dental office is set up for a right hander when it comes to cleaning teeth. There seems to be more room on the right side of the patient and the tray holding the instruments is positioned for a righty (I’m guessing, again).
For some reason my mind couldn’t quite process the fact that I was having my teeth cleaned by a lefty. It’s like I was exercising the other side of my brain.
I asked her if anybody ever noticed the difference. She said a few, but some just might not have said anything.
She told me her graduating class at dental school had four left handed students. But somehow, two of them switched to being right handed. I’m not sure how that’s possible, but more power too them I guess.
By the way…she told me that I did a good job with my brushing, and I had NO cavities.
