VERONA, N.D. (KFGO) – One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on State Highway 1, two miles south of Verona, in southeastern North Dakota. It happened on the same highway where a fatal crash occurred earlier in the day.
The State Patrol says the Highway 1 crash happened about 3:30 p.m. A car rear-ended a Terragator as the large farm vehicle was about to turn off onto a field approach. The car went into a ditch and ended up in a slough. The car driver was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital and later transported to Fargo by Sanford AirMed with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other driver was not injured.
The State Patrol says an earlier crash on State Highway 1 north of Verona Thursday morning left one person dead. A pickup approached a semi when the trailer it was pulling released its load of rock onto the highway. A large, loose rock from the load went through the windshield of the pickup and struck the driver. He was taken to the Oakes Hospital where he died. His passenger and the semi-driver were not hurt.
The load of rock was not intended to be dumped onto the highway.
