THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – A murder investigation is underway in Thief River Falls.
Police and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at Digi-Key Electronics shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday. The body of a man was found. The cause of death was determined to be homicidal violence. The BCA is assisting in the investigation.
A suspect, Jorge Benitez-Estremera, was booked into jail Wednesday morning. The name of the victim has not been released.
Digi-Key Electronics issued the following statement:
“On Tuesday evening, May 9, there was an incident involving two people on Digi-Key grounds that led to the death of an employee. Law enforcement has ensured us there is no safety risk to team members or the public. They have stated that they have 32-year-old Jorge Luis Benitez-Estermera in custody in connection to the case and Digi-Key is fully cooperating with the investigation. This individual has never worked at Digi-Key in any capacity, either directly or through a contractor. He also never sought, nor gained access into our facility. The name of the deceased Digi-Key team member has not yet been released as law enforcement continues to notify family members. We express our deepest condolences to the impacted family and colleagues. We are providing access to counseling for Digi-Key team members who are affected by the situation.”
