CENTER CITY, Minn. – This fall, the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School will launch a pilot program called Alternative Admission Pathways addressing the growing need for addiction counselors.
School President Kevin Doyle said the program offers an opportunity for prospective students who do not have a bachelor’s degree.
“We get inquiries all the time from people who have compelling stories, and have really interesting backgrounds that might prepare them to do this level of work, but traditionally have just been ruled out, out-of-hand. In other words, they don’t have the good fortune of having had a bachelor’s degree,” Doyle said.
By expanding access to master’s level opportunities, the school also hopes to attract a greater diversity of professionals into this area of healthcare to better reflect the diversity of people who need help.
